members: You can add to the log here. Name: Dave Ayres Date_Of_Problem: 15/01/08 Time_of_Problem: 18:00 Station: West Horndon Problem: Other
Details_of_incidentBoarded 18:09 at Fenchurch Street bound for Southend East; train got as far as West Horndon and stopped. Waited 20 mins to be told by driver he had no information, as "signalman refused to talk to him".
Checked internet via mobile which informed lines down between Pitsea and Benfleet, still no word from driver. After 20 mins (now sat at West Horndon for 30 mins) driver comes on to say "the signalman still refuses to talk to me, however I kinda guess we won't be going anywhere. Also don't know if there will be any buses, as no-one will talk to me".
No staff at platform, or in station, car park full of people, no-one has a clue of what to do. Fortunately for me, my parents live within a short drive of West Horndon, so kindly picked me up and drove me home. Got to Southend East approx 2 hours late.
Same issues the following morning (16/1); no trains at Southend East, had to walk to Southend Victoria (25 minutes) and get train to Liverpool Street.
Name: Dominic Heaney Date_Of_Problem: 15.01.2008 Time_of_Problem: 19:00 Station: Laindon Problem: Delay
Details_of_incidentWas on the 18:20 from Fenchurch Street. We stopped outside, first, West Horndon for around an hour, and then again for another extended period before getting to Laindon, where it was announced that the train would terminate to go back to London. We were told that buses were being laid on east- but then an announcement was made that only two buses at been seen in 2 and a half hours!. So I decided to walk to Basildon, and to proceed from there by a regular bus to Southend. But passing two trains on the walk, I decided to try my luck with the trains from Basildon....progress was very slow. I eventually got to Westcliff just under four hours after leaving Fenchurch Street. An almost complete lack of communication from c2c (in general information as to what was going on was relayed to my carriage following mobile phone conversations by passengers with friends stuck on other trains), an absence of organization at Laindon: above all, why was the severity of the problems (which were mentioned in passing) not mentioned at Fenchurch Street, so that we would know to Liverpool Street and get the "one" train instead? Pretty poor showing, really.
Name: Andrew Daley Date_Of_Problem: 15/01/08 Time_of_Problem: 19:00 Station: Fenchurch St. Problem: Delay
Details_of_incidentHere are several points which need addressing.
1). Why did the display board at Fenchurch Street only mention there may be delays? C2C must have been aware of SEVERE delays by then, if they had communicated this, I could have switched to the One Line. (Also when these situations arise and you ask if you can use your ticket on the ONE line, the staff never know the answer!)
2) Why were trains rapidly leaving Fenchurch Street when they quite clearly had nowhere to go and would eventually all become bunched up at Pitsea/Basildon ?
3) Why was the Journey Check Wap/Website not updated? It said at 18:25, problems had been fixed but there may still be delays. This site exists only for the purpose of warning about delays. It was totally inaccurate.
4) Why did the main C2C site not tell us more information, after scrolling through various bumf telling you how great and punctual you are there was a vague message and were then linked back to the Journey Check site (which told you nothing new and in fact was incorrect)
5) Why no announcements from my driver, like many others I found out more information from phone calls to friends further down the line. What is the c2c policy on telling drivers on keeping passengers informed ?
6) Why no announcements on station display boards at stations?
7) Why no extra staff at stations explaining what was going on? It’s always the same, slight problems and the staff go and hide. I eventually got off at Laindon to be greeting by unhelpfull and just plain rude staff leading to passengers becoming even more angry.
8) Why no mention of compensation on your website?. Many people had to take expensive taxis, had nights out ruined, missed connections, etc
9) Despite signing up to it,I didnt receive any text alerts of the delays either, whats the point in that ?

Details_of_incidentI caught the 08.16 from East Tilbury to Fenchurch Street this morning. The train left on time but we were held a long time outside Fenchurch Street.
There was an onboard announcement apologising for the delay & saying the train was waiting for a platform to be free - this does not explain why the train was late or why a platform was not available.
When we finally got off the train, the announcer @ Fenchurch Street apologised for the late running of the trains this morning "due to the weather conditions"!
I haven't noticed a foot of snow or that we had an unexpectedly freezing cold night - on the contrary it is mild for the time of year. It is raining & the wind is blowing somewhat, but it is not exactly a gale. What are they going to do when winter arrives?

- Problem: Cancellation
Details_of_incidentThe 21:10 train from Fenchurch Street via Ockendon was cancelled at very late notice due to "lack of train crew". Annoucement instructed all Chafford Hundred passengers to take the next train from platform 1 to Upminister where a connecting train will go to Grays via Ockenden. There was not a connecting train - Upminster staff knew nothing of this. We were instead left standing on a freezing cold platform with less facilities than at Fenchurch Street for around 40 mins, until the next train from Fenchurch St finally arrived.

Details_of_incidentWe were getting conflicting information regarding the lack of service this morning. The website said there were problems but that the 07:28 was going to be running just a few minutes late whereby everything up to this point was cancelled. After arriving at the station there was NO service whatsoever and a replacement bus was there. There was little or no information as to what was going on and we were eventually able to board an overcrowded, hot bus. By 13:15 my partner then had to leave work as his son has to travel by train to school and there was no still no service for Ockenden and Chafford. Boards at Fenchurch street said trains were going to Chafford but they were not. No replacement rail service bus was available at Grays to take passengders to Chafford and Ockenden hence the cost of a taxi. Once again I am sure that C2C have failed its customers with no proper backup plan in place. Can you guys add any weight to the argument that we need to stop being treated like second rate citizens just becuase we live on the branch line of the branch line (so to speak)?

Details_of_incidentOckendon branch (point problems) 9:34 from Chafford Hundred to LFS cancelled. Passengers advised to take next train to Grays then travel to London via Rainham. However the next train from Grays via Upminster 9:57 was first delayed by 3 mins then a mile out of Grays station just stopped because of points failure. The train had to go back to Grays and then go on a different set of tracks. To add to the confusion there was by this time another train coming into Grays from the Ockendon branch (I assume). No clear information given to passengers and automated information stated that we were at Westcliff and running 59 mins late. Eventually made it to Upminster and checked online “journeychecker” which advised of short term cancellations/delays on the Ockendon branch due to points failure. However when talking to the c2c employee at Upminster station he was completely unaware of any problems!

Details_of_incident11:29 Chafford Hundred to Fenchurch St. service cancelled. No information at station website states service cancelled due to "This is due to a member of train crew being unavailable" i.e. hungover?
This also happens quite a lot Mon-Fri but as most people travel at peak times and thus goes unnoticed. I believe I've been told that this doesn't affect their punctuality records, so they are free do cancel services in the week in the middle of the day as it affects so few people.

Details_of_incidentI arrived at Fenchurch Street to find no trains, so knew something was up. It was 25 minutes before the news started filtering through that all was not well. I waited at Fenchurch Street as so often in the past I have taken tube trips to Barking and have ended up being worse off. In the end I had to make the trip, but ended up outside East Ham on the District Line when they cut the power. Eventually detrained from the district line at 22.15. We were then left in East Ham. Got someone to come and get me as I didn't even know whether trains were running at Barking. Complained to both LUL and C2C. I was telephoned within 24 hours by the General Manager of the District Line to explain what happened from their point of view. I've not had a reply from C2C! Which doesn't surprise me. All this from plastic sheeting - it is pathetic.

Details_of_incidentHaving now recovered from the fiasco of 2nd April disruption. I was one of the lucky ones who made it as far as East Ham station and could call my brother to come and collect me for the onward journey home to Chafford Hundred. Many of my fellow
commuters were not so lucky. This begs the question, what if or eventually when there is a real disaster on the C2C line what are the emergency plans in place? Or will C2C do their normal plan and just leave us to find our own way home!
Name: Tim J Date_Of_Problem: 2 April 07 Time_of_Problem: 18:30 Station: Fenchurch St. Problem: Other
Details_of_incidentThe worst train journey ever from Fenchurch Street to Chafford Hundred! Over 4 hours instead of 30 mins. I do understand that problems occur, but my main problem was the appalling lack of communication. I arrived at Fenchurch St. around 18:25 for the 18:33 train. Following the advice given by staff at Fenchurch Street at around 18:40, I attempted to use the District Line to get to Barking and was subsequently held up for over an hour and a half near East Ham when the power was turned off to that line. At around 21:00 after detraining, I waited for and took a bus from East Ham to Barking, arriving at Barking around 21:30. There was a complete lack of staff there with nobody to ask for advice. Information screens were meaningless, announcements were intermittent and I had no idea how to proceed. One train came and went without an
announcement at around 21:40. Eventually a train was announced to leave from Plat 7 at around 21:56 going via Upminster, so I took that – however upon boarding the driver announced it was going via Dagenham Dock and Grays! The train was again announced as being via Upminster on the public address system. I decided to stay on the train and see where it went, given that Grays is only one station from my intended destination and is a reasonable route to Chafford in any case. The train went via Dagenham so I got off at Grays. Upon arrival at Grays around 23:25 I was expecting to find a bus replacement or perhaps a shuttle train on the Ockendon branch between Grays and Upminster but two staff at the station advised me there were no trains and no replacement buses to Chafford Hundred! They directed me to take a taxi which I did, arriving in Chafford Hundred around 23:45.
Complete shambles. Where were all the staff at Barking? Why didn't anyone know what trains were going where? Why, five hours after problems started, were there no replacement buses (or trains) at Grays? Or even a pre-paid taxi service? Surely that is enough time to arrange alternative transport of some description?

Details_of_incidentNoticed from c2c's website that there were
'Line problem between West Ham and Barking.
Train services on all routes are being disrupted due to overhead wire problems between West Ham and Barking.
Short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes can be expected.'
However, when got to Fenchurch St nothing was running. So went back to work. c2c's website didn't change this statement all evening, however the national rail website was much more helpful, saying
"There is currently no estimate for a normal train service to resume.
Updates: 18:10 All trains are at a stand in the area. "
and later
"Some train services are diverting between London Fenchurch Street and Barking via Stratford (London) in both directions "
so why could not c2c show this info on their website?
Thankfully not involved in the stranded trains, but not much in the way of
constructive information for those still trying to get home.

Details_of_incidentGot on the 17.35, no problems at the time, got out of
Limehouse, approaching Bromley by Bow district line station and stopped, no information for around an hour, and even then there was no useful information, then nothing for another hour. Eventually at around 8.00, we were told we would be 'detraining', 15 minutes later, managed to get off and walk upto Bromley by bow station, expecting to see some C2C staff..... oh no, just tube staff who don't know anything about the trains.... but we could get on the district line and wait for the power to come back on and get to Barking 'it should only take 20 minutes....' 2 hours later..... nothing. Still no C2C staff. Went out to try a taxi, no taxis..... Eventually, got a bus to Stratford where we were told C2C services are running through Stratford...... but not stopping! We were instructed to get on a service BACK to
London to get a C2C train from Fenchurch street to go back through Stratford!?! Got on a ONE train to Southend Victoria, eventually stepped through the door at 11.00pm! Its not the fact that they broke down, its the shocking management of the situation that is the problem

Details_of_incidentI think I can safely say Monday 2nd April was the worst train journey I have ever experienced. I was on the 17.26 which left Fenchurch Street on time with no indication of any problems - we ground to halt at Upton Park and there we stayed for over 2 hours with little information. Eventually we were 'detrained' around 8pm and were left stranded at Upton Park with no assistance from C2C at all. No replacement bus services -absolutely no support of any kind. Once again we had to dig deep in our pockets and pay the local cab firms to get home. All I want to know is where were C2C??

Details_of_incidentI guess i was one of the 'lucky' passengers (if you can call it that) who had the miss-fortune of being on the train. We came to a stand just outside Bromley-by-Bow station where we sat for a number of hours. In 90 minutes teh driver made to rather
inaudible announcements. In frustration some people jumped off teh train. whilst i condone thsi as it made a bad situation work i can understand it due to
the lack of information. eventually a decision was made to de-train us and walk us down the track to Bromley. Waited tehre for around 2 hours and watched in amazement as
the train we were taken off went through the station. No C2C staff on hand and although LUL tried their best, they were not much help. eventually got a tube to barking where there was no trains and a bus home to
Basildon. home at some unearthly hour! What should have been an hours journey took over 8! Well done to C2C another fine example of how you treat your customers. Senior management
should be held responsible and made to face us in person at Fenchurch Street tonight as they were too cowardly to do it in person last night. So many questions and
the main one being, why on earth in Mark Hopwood in a job. he clearly along with his managers can
barely run a decent train service and when things go wrong, he doesn't have a clue and on top of that was nowhere to be seen.
Name: Matthew Date_Of_Problem: 2/4/07 Time_of_Problem: 18:00 Station: Fenchurch St. Problem: Delay
Details_of_incidentOnce again a problem on the line is turned into chaos by the incompetence of the management of C2C. Yes there was a problem with the overheads at East Ham but this was turned into chaos by the usual wrong platform announcements, the fact that 1756 Tilbury Line went out announced as the 1808, and nobody knew which train was departing next. A delay of what would have been probably 30 minutes was turned into 2+ hours as one of the drivers was sent out but was not signed to use the alternative route to Barking so that train sat there blocking the line for over an hour!!

Details_of_incident1726 train left Fenchurch Street on time and with no indication of delay. Train arrived and left Limehouse again with no indication of delay. It then stopped partially at Upton Park station and stayed there for longer than I stayed locked on the train, which was *3* hours. To regain my sanity I was forced to pull the emergency release lever and leave the carriage, with much support from my fellow travellers who all followed me in this endeavour.
I can safely say this was the worst journey I have ever experienced. Lack of communication, ridiculous delays and eventually no resolution to a matter forced passengers to jeopordise their safety, walk along tracks and be left stranded in East London. I had to pay a fortunate to get home and I bet c2c won't be footing the bill for a penny of it.

I got a seat on the delayed 7.46 which was also late pulling into Fenchurch St. It pulled in parralel with another train, massive crowds. There were two C2C station workers "explaining" the situation, One older white guy said he was embarrassed to be working for C2C and the young black guy I was talking to said these problems are expected with a new timetable and would be fixed but offered no insight when asked why every train from Ockendon has been delayed this week, he blamed a train crash in Leigh and the wet weather on Monday. Then some women arrived from Laindon with their own woes and I left them to it!

Details_of_incidentAll trains were delayed due to signal problems and the wet weather. I could not even get on the 8.06 due to overcrowding. I had to get the 8.12 which should have got into London Fenchurch Street at 8.46. The train arrived at 9.04 along with the 8.06. There was serious overcrowding at London Fenchurch Street. It was quite difficult to get out of the station. Surely this is a hazard.

Details_of_incidentThe doors were locked as I walked down the platform. I expected to have another train 20 minutes later. There is a gap in the timetable and the next tarin was not due until 6.52pm. A wait of 27 minutes. This train then ran in late, and by the time I got to Chafford it was running 10 minutes late. Not the improvement to the service that I had hoped for. None of the staff could explain why there was a gap, and were amazed when I said we had been promised a 20 minute service.

Details_of_incidentOn my usual journey from Southend to Grays, leaving Southend at 07.50, arrived at Pitsea to find connection cancelled. Leads to a 20 minute delay. Advance information on screens at Southend (and on BBC news) about problems, so not unexpected. Adequate announcements over tannoy at Pitsea to apologise/explain. Details_of_incidentAgain, I am having to complain about rail travel again and the Rainham line on the evening of 15 November 2006.
After last week's chaos and no explanation, I can't believe that we had three trains cancelled on the Pitsea line due to vandalism in the Leigh-on-Sea area. It said there were severe disruptions on the line but as far as I could see there were no disruptions at all on the Shoeburyness and Leigh on Sea line only the Pitsea line (i.e our loop line). When I went to get the 17.41 train, that was cancelled and the 17.56 also but all trains to other destinations at that time were running on time.
I am not at all happy with this service and will take this further as we pay the same amount of money as the people on the Fenchurch Street line but why should we have to put up with this. The 18.11 train was very crowded and I am sure this is not health and safety and I aim to find out if it is.

Details_of_incidentI would like to make a complaint about last night's travel. I travel from Rainham on a daily basis.
I went to catch the 17.41 Pitsea train to find it was running late due to problems in the West Horndon area and Upminster. We were told over the tannoy that problems would be escalating on Upminster trains. As far as I could see there were no problems at that time with the Upminster trains, they were all leaving on time out of the station.
We were then told the 5.41 was cancelled and to change platforms for the 17.56 (this was also running late). A train came in eventually, we all got on it (bearing in mind there were a lot of people by this time as it was 18.10 when it came in) only to be told it was not the 17.56 but a train going to Shoebury instead. We then had to change platforms AGAIN and wait for the 18.11 which came 18.15 and left at 18.20. I got into Rainham at 19.00.
What I can't understand is that West Horndon or Upminster are not on our
line and I can't believe that they could not get a train out from 5.30 until
6.20. This is absolutely disgusting.

Details_of_incident8.03 - automated annoucer tells us the train is delayed by 1 min, then 2 all the way until 16 or 17 minutes. Then as the train limps into the station the driver is waving his arms out the window, telling us the train is broken and no one is onboard! I went home out of pure frustration at C2C inability to let us know, the driver was on a phone attached to the train, and a mobile yet no one informed the pasangers on the platform.

Not the first time this has happened at this location, although the last time was at night so somewhat more dangerous. In any case, a serious safety incident.

Details_of_incidentA vehicle had apparently damaged the level crossing barrier at Pitsea, causing traffic to back up beyond the A13 roundabout. We missed the 08:05 altogether but just made the 08:19 which was also delayed by 15 minutes, presumably due to signalling knock-on effects from the loop line.
Even on a good day the situation is becoming desperate due to the volume of heavy dump lorries on their way to the civic amenity site which prevents commuters reaching the station car park. Once the level crossing gate descends it is near gridlock. They need better traffic management but nobody gives a damn.

Details_of_incidentTrain cancelled due to overhead line problems miles away from Chafford!!! Why are we hit when the lines by us still have power and our trains aren't even coming through from where the problem is? Buggered up my combined theatre trip for the evening, as I'll not make the pre-theatre meal now. I guess there's no refund for this is there? Also it says replacement buses are running but there's none here. C2C also say there's no point going to Grays.

Details_of_incidentThe 17.02 was cancelled with announcements that it was due to a train failure. Passengers for Ockendon/CH advised to catch the 17.00 for a connecting bus service from Upminster. I caught the 17.11 to Grays however I noted while driving up Hogg Lane that I was passed by a rail replacement bus (loaded) heading to Ockendon. Question: If this was a sudden cancellation as announced at FS how did c2c manage to get these buses in place so quickly when they have advised TRUG that they are unable to get replacements in place on other occasion.

Details_of_incidentI caught the 7.50 from Fenchurch street, after pulling into Upminster we were told that the train would not be going via Chafford hundred as scheduled and was told to disembark. Once on the platform at Upminster I was instructed to catch the next train back to Barking then a train to Grays and finally a bus from Gray's to Chafford Hundred and Ockendon.
A disgrace that is beginning to happen again and again. Whilst the train was stationary at Upminster a few passengers including myself ask the driver why is it always the branch line passengers that are inconvenienced at the first sign of a delay and he agreed that that seems to be the case. He could have just said this for an easy life but even so for a member of C2C staff to admit this just show's that this is an unacceptable occurrence happening again and again
