- 15/02/2005 Sir, As a rail commuter of 27 years’ standing — and I use the
term advisedly — I was horrified to see that train companies are beginning to
introduce televisions on trains (report, February 9). My one recent experience
of these was on the Heathrow Express, where the sound levels were so high that
sleep, reading and even thought were impossible. It was a blessed relief to
escape to the relative tranquillity of Terminal 4.
Perhaps fare-paying passengers can exert influence by persuading advertisers
that advertising in this way will reduce their profits. My college landlady
refused to buy any product which she had seen advertised anywhere. While this
made meals interesting, it must be worth a try.
Yours faithfully,
GEORGE BULL,
Hertfordshire
