c2c's fleet of 74 Class 357 Electrostar trains have won the coveted 'Golden Spanner' award for the best fleet of Electrical Multiple Units on the UK's railways for the third year running. The fleet of trains is now averaging over 45,000 miles before developing a fault which leads to a delay of over 5 minutes, making them the most reliable electric units in the country. The Golden Spanners awards are sponsored by the Modern Railways journal.

National Express, the owners of the c2c franchise, are undertaking a rebranding of all their rail franchises (and also their bus operations) to give a coherent corporate identity. This a marked reversal from a company that in the past has given some interesting train company names, such as 'Silverlink' and 'ONE' along with of course c2c. Nat Express have lost the Silverlink franchise but ONE is to be renamed simply National Express East Anglia. This will also see the trains repainted into a new white/grey livery, which will also be appearing on National Express buses. We understand no decision has yet been made with regards to if/how c2c will be rebranded.
