Due to expected increases in evening engineering work by Network Rail on the Liverpool St. route during 2009, a number of the Barking – Liverpool St. evening shuttles will have to be cancelled; and as these are the now the only workings now available for drivers to gain and maintain route knowledge, it will be necessary to fulfil this need by other means.
Hence from the December 2009 timetable, it is expected that three of the Grays – London workings, in the middle of the day, will use Liverpool St. instead of Fenchurch Street. As well as observing that such services tend to be very lightly loaded anyway, c2c have assured us that announcements will be made as these trains in the London-bound direction approach and stand at Barking, to minimise risk of passengers being ‘inadvertently’ diverted. . 12/10/2008 EDIT Despite being informed of these changes it seems C2C have decided to retain the evening trains into Liverpool Street, at least for now. The 20:35 and 21:35 are the only Liverpool St departures these forming an all station shuttle to Grays via Rainham. The balancing services are the 19:48 from Grays and the 20:50 starting from Barking and calling at Stratford and Liverpool St.
