New on train announcements will shortly be implemented on the c2c fleet of trains, which will, amongst other improvements, go to highlighting the Quiet Zone in the end carriage (Shoebury end) of each 4 car unit. Additional signage will also be added shortly along with signal-weakening film for the windows, to reduce signal strength of mobile phones.

Due to expected increases in evening engineering work by Network Rail on the Liverpool St. route during 2009, a number of the Barking – Liverpool St. evening shuttles will have to be cancelled; and as these are the now the only workings now available for drivers to gain and maintain route knowledge, it will be necessary to fulfil this need by other means.

RAIL USERS' DISAPPOINTMENT AT DELAYED IMPROVEMENTS TO TRAIN SERVICES The Thurrock Rail Users' Group (TRUG) learned this week that plans by Network Rail (NR) to extend the terminating platform at Grays station to 8-coach length, already delayed from early 2008 to late 2008, will now be too late for the December 2008 timetable change, which will put the consequent improvement in train services back by a full year, from May 2008 to May 2009.

An interesting comment in this months (August 2008) Modern Railways QUOTE "It's not only NR that has lost faith in the railway's ability to get things done. Train operators, wary of the fiascos of Rugby and Liverpool Street, are second-guessing all the time. For example, it was c2c that pulled the plug on an Easter possession at Grays to lengthen the turnback siding (sic) [i.e. the bay platform!] there to 8 cars. with only 3 or 4 weeks to go to the blockade, the operator was unimpressed by NR's contingency plans and demanded the job be put off.
